consultant psychiatrist, psychotherapist & Psychoanalyst
MBChB, FRCpsych, MD(Res), MBPA, MIPA
I am a bilingual Psychiatrist, Psychotherapist and Psychoanalyst based in London. I have worked as a consultant in the NHS and privately and have 20 years of clinical experience. My specialty is in understanding and treating the whole person rather than a diagnosis or symptoms. My clinical approach integrates psychiatric and psychotherapeutic practice.
I am experienced in training and supervising doctors and practitioners from various backgrounds. I offer professional engagement through supervision, teaching, and consultation to professionals and organisations.

professional support and collaboration
I provide individual and group training and supervision for clinicians. I also accept referrals for private psychoanalytic treatment and am open to collaborative work or consultation.
I am a Psychiatrist, Psychotherapist, Psychoanalyst, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. I bring 20 years of clinical experience, including 10 years as an NHS Consultant Psychiatrist, in supporting people with a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties.
When I was studying Medicine in Edinburgh I discovered that I was more interested in people and minds than in science, and chose psychiatry because this was where a doctor could accompany people struggling in their minds and help them come through it. I trained in psychiatry at the Maudsley Hospital, London, and went on to specialist Medical Psychotherapy training at the Maudsley, the Halliwick Unit at St Ann’s Hospital in Haringey, and the Tavistock Clinic in London. During my training I became deeply interested in a group of patients that many professionals find difficult to help — people who attract the diagnosis of personality disorder.
In my 10-year NHS consultant career, I was Lead Consultant Psychiatrist in two different specialist services for personality disorder (the Cawley Centre at the Maudsley Hospital and the Waterview Centre at Central & North West London Trust), a community mental health team for Mood, Anxiety and Personality (Southwark MAP Team), and a specialist psychotherapy service (Westminster Psychotherapy Service). I am known for service innovation — I designed and set up the innovative Complex Emotional Needs Pathway in Westminster, which was Highly Commended at the 2021 UK National Mental Health Awards.
About dr marcella fok
As a therapist I have expertise in both psychoanalytic treatment and mentalisation based treatment (MBT), and often draw on both traditions in my work.
I started practising MBT when training at the Maudsley and went on to work under direct supervision by Prof Anthony Bateman at the Personality Disorder Service at the Halliwick Unit. I have been teaching and supervising MBT for 10 years and became an Anna Freud Centre certified MBT supervisor in 2020.
I am a qualified psychoanalyst with the British Psychoanalytic Association and I offer intensive psychoanalytic treatment in private practice.
Alongside my clinical training I also completed a research doctorate studying the health, mortality and service use of people with personality disorders in South London, at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London. I continue to use research to inform and develop my practice.
In addition to direct clinical work, I offer teaching and clinical supervision to both organisations and individuals. I am experienced in training and supervising doctors and non-medical practitioners of various disciplines and cultures.
I am registered with the General Medical Council and the British Psychoanalytic Council.
